How VATTY works
What exactly does VATTY do?
VATTY checks every invoice before it hits your accounts. It ingests invoices via email, upload or integration, validates the VAT evidence against strict HMRC requirements, identifies missing, inconsistent or high-risk line items, applies a confidence score so your team can prioritise, automatically requests corrected invoices where needed, and outputs clean, validated data into your accounting software.
Where does VATTY sit in our process?
Before your ledger. Most tools try to fix problems during review, after the work is done. VATTY is a pre-submission control layer that prevents problems at the point of entry, which changes VAT from reactive to controlled, consistent and predictable.
How do invoices get into VATTY?
Via email, direct upload, and integrations. Clients and suppliers can simply reply to a chasing email with the document attached.
What does the confidence score mean?
Every receipt gets a confidence score reflecting how reliably it was read and classified, plus a separate risk rating reflecting audit and compliance risk. High-risk or low-confidence items are surfaced first so your team spends time where it matters.
Compliance and audit
How does VATTY validate against HMRC requirements?
Each invoice goes through VAT number validation against official registries, invoice structure checks for missing fields and legal requirements, HMRC-aligned rule checks against current regulations, and arithmetic verification of line items, tax calculations and totals.
What happens if HMRC question a claim?
You have a full audit trail ready instantly. Every claim carries a structured compliance checklist, a chronological record of all validation steps and outcomes, and an exportable evidence bundle with secure timestamps.
Is VATTY ready for GFC8 and ViDA?
VATTY is built for where compliance is going, not where it was. HMRC expects VAT data to be complete and consistent at source, traceable and reviewable. As e-invoicing speeds up reporting under ViDA, VATTY acts as your pre-submission control layer so tax logic is correct before the data is submitted.
Does VATTY provide tax advice?
No. VATTY provides software tools that assist with VAT compliance workflows. Outputs are for informational purposes and support your decision-making, but they do not replace professional judgment or your regulatory obligations.
Day-to-day use
Who chases missing or incorrect invoices?
VATTY does. It sends intelligent invoice requests by email with automated follow-up sequences and integrated status tracking, using consistent, professional messaging that gets higher response rates.
Will we keep re-checking the same suppliers?
No. VATTY recognises suppliers and their VAT behaviour, matches them automatically and enriches new transactions with historical data, so the same checks are never repeated.
How do we see the state of our whole client base?
The workload dashboard shows exactly which VAT returns are ready, blocked or missing information across your entire portfolio in real time, so you can plan resources around it.
What do we need to change to try it?
Nothing. VATTY runs in parallel alongside your current process with zero integration effort, no risk to your current compliance status, and real client data to measure exactly how much time is saved.
Plans and billing
How is VATTY priced?
Per company, not per seat. Plans include a set number of companies and the per-company rate falls as you move up a tier. The Free plan includes the full validation engine for one company.
Is there a contract?
No. Plans are monthly unless you choose annual billing, which saves 20%. You can move between plans at any time.
Do clients or suppliers need accounts?
No. They receive requests by email and reply with documents. VATTY handles the rest.
